WalterWalt (born as Walter Baita) is an artist belonging to the “Outsider Art” category, who produced more than a thousand paintings and artworks in his 50 years career.
Born in Liege from a family of Italian immigrants, took his first steps in the art world under the tutelage of his mentor, his uncle, who was a designer for a renowned Belgian shoe company. While tutored and making his first experiments with graphic design and painting, he discovered his love for art.
While having to work from an early age in order to help his family, he always kept nurturing his passion for drawing: at the age of 12 he was already working in the Liege market at dawn.
When the family came back to Italy, he found a job in a printing workshop in Milan, where he could witness the work of the talented company carvers firsthand.
When he was 21, he had the first chance to show his works in Trapani together with other young artists, in an art exhibition where he displayed his first ink drawings, enamel works, ceramics, as well as his first experiments with conceptual art. His artworks sold out and he was awarded a gold medal at the end of the exposition, while all proceeds was given to the 60th regiment of the Trapani infantry.
Back in Milan, he took a strong interest in oil painting, but his passion for esoteric arts pushed him to travel to Mexico, where he ended up spending one year and had the chance to meet the Hiucholes.
Back in Italy he decides to move to Bolzano and sell his art on the streets in various cities, traveling as far as Venice. At the same time though, he had the opportunity to travel around the world, going back to Mexico four times and even moving to New York for a short period of time.
Throughout the course of his life, he always kept developing his art knowledge, even though at times he had to focus more on his work as an inventor in the electro-medical field in order to sustain his family, he never stopped learning and refining his skills through his self-taught approach, which allowed him to learn every form of art and form of communication.
His artworks ranged from pop to conceptual art, with a focus on the oneiric and the emotional vortexes the human mind goes through. His artworks don’t have a name, but a Haiku which accompanies them.

WalterWalt (all’anagrafe Walter Baita) è un’artista inserito nella categoria “Outsider Art” che ha prodotto più di un migliaio di quadri e disegni nel corso della sua cinquantennale carriera.
Nato a Liegi, da genitori Italiani emigrati in Belgio, mosse i primi passi nel mondo dell’arte guidato dallo zio paterno, disegnatore di scarpe per una nota fabbrica belga. Col supporto di questo mentore, fece i primi esperimenti nel mondo della grafica e della pittura, scoprendo così la propria passione per le arti.
Nel corso della sua vita continuò ad affiancare la passione per il disegno, alla necessità di dover lavorare fin dalla giovane età per prestare il proprio aiuto alla famiglia: già all’età di dodici anni cominciò a lavorare nei mercati di Liegi fin dalle prime ore dell’alba.
Con il ritorno della famiglia in Italia trovò lavoro in una tipografia di Milano, dove ebbe la possibilità di osservare da vicino il lavoro dei talentuosi incisori della ditta, e continuare a coltivare la propria passione per l’arte.
La prima occasione di esporre le proprie opere gli si presentò a 21 anni nella città di Trapani, in una mostra nella quale presentava i lavori di grafica a china, smalti, ceramiche ed i primi esperimenti di arte concettuale, assieme ad altri artisti. Tutte le sue opere furono vendute durante l’esposizione, al termine della quale fù premiato con una medaglia d’oro ed il ricavato andò al 60° reggimento di fanteria di Trapani.
Tornato a Milano, si interessò particolarmente alle opere ad olio su tela, ma la passione per le arti esoteriche lo spinge ad intraprendere un viaggio di un anno in Messico, dove conosce l’arte degli indios Hiucholes.
Rientrato in Italia si trasferisce a Bolzano e decide di vendere la propria arte per strada, partendo da Bolzano ed arrivando fino a Venezia. In questo periodo avrà l’occasione di fare svariati viaggi in giro per il mondo, tornando in Messico per quattro volte e vivendo a New York per un breve periodo.
Nel corso degli anni ha continuato a coltivare la propria passione per l’arte, nonostante in alcuni periodi sia stato concentrato più sul lavoro di inventore in campo elettromedicale per sostenere la famiglia, non ha mai smesso di portare avanti la sua grande passione con un metodo autodidattico che lo ha sempre contraddistinto e gli ha permesso di studiare ogni forma di arte e comunicazione.
Le sue opere spaziano dall’arte pop fino a quella concettuale, con un focus particolare verso il mondo onirico ed i vortici emotivi vissuti dall’essere umano. Le opere non hanno titolo, ma bensì un Haiku che le accompagna.

WalterWalt, im Einwohnermeldeamt gemeldet als Walter Baita, ist ein Künstler der Kategorie “Aussenseiter Kunst”, der mehr als tausend Bilder und Zeichnungen in seiner fünfzigjährigen Laufbahn erzeugt hat. Der Künster wird in Liegi in Belgien von italienischen nach Belgien ausgwanderten Eltern geboren. Er machte seine ersten Schritte als Künstler gelenkt vom Onkel vaeterlicherseits, welcher damals für eine bekannte Schuhfabrik in Belgien Schuhe designte. Er machte die ersten Experimente in der Welt der Grafik und der Malerei und entdeckte so mit der Unterstützung seines Onkels seine Leidenschaft für Kunst. Im Laufe seines Lebens setzte er seine Leidenschaft parallel zur Notwendigkeit eine Arbeit auszuüben fort. Bereits im zarten Alter von 12 Jahren unterstützte der Künstler seine Familie finanziell. Er arbeitete täglich am Markt in Liegi bereits in den frühen Morgenstunden. Mit der Rückkehr seiner Eltern nach Italien, fand er Arbeit in einer Druckerei in Mailand, wo er Künstler der Druckkunst vor Ort beobachten und so seine Leidenschaft als Künstler weiter pflegen konnte. Die erste Gelegenheit für eine Bilderausstellung ergab sich im Alter von 21 Jahren in der Stadt Trapani, wo Walter Baita graphische Arbeiten mit Chinafarben, Kunstlacke, Keramiken und erste Experimente in der Konzeptkunst zusammen mit anderen Künstlern machte. Alle seine Arbeiten wurden während dieser Ausstellung verkauft und es wurde ihm eine Goldmedaile verliehen. Der Erlös ging an das 60igste Infanterie-Regiment der Stadt Trapani. Geehrt in der Stadt Mailand, interessierte sich der Künstler vor allem für Ölarbeiten auf Leinwand, aber die Leidenschaft für esoterische Künste bringt in auf eine einjährige Reise nach Mexiko, wo er die Kunst der Huichol-Indianer kennen lernte. Nach seiner Rückkehr in Italien übersiedelt der Künstler nach Bozen. Hier verkauft er seine Kunst auf der Straße, beginnend von Bozen bis nach Venedig. In dieser Zeit hatte der Künstler verschiedene Gelegenheiten durch die Welt zu reisen, vier mal nach Mexico und für eine kurze Zeit nach New York. Im Laufe der Zeit hat Walter Baita seine Leidenschaft als Künstler weiter verfolgt, wenn auch mit einigen Pausen, wo er als Erfinder im elektromedizinischen Bereich tätig war um seine Familie finanziell zu unterstützen. Er hat nie aufgehört seine große Leidenschaft für die Kunst mittels Selbstlernmethode weiterzuführen, was ihn geprägt hat und ihn erlaubt hat jede Form von Kunst und Kommunikation zu erlernen. Seine Arbeiten reichen von Pop Art bis zur Konzeptkunst mit einem besonderen Fokus zur Traumwelt und emotionale Wirbel welche der Mensch durchlebt. Die Werke sind nicht betitelt, jedoch mit einem Haiku (gilt als die kürzeste Gedichtform der Welt) versehen.
